Business journalist Rich Rescigno, who first visited Sarasota 35 years ago and now lives here, is a former managing editor of Barron's. In an exclusive study conducted at the request of Sarasota magazine, Brown ranked the performance of individual counties. The opportunity to lead a discreet lifestyle away from the spotlight is also an attraction that has drawn many millionaires to Sarasota.
It compares with more than 9,900 in the smallest and most exclusive area of Naples, where 7.1% of its total 138,629 households are in the millionaire category, the highest in terms of per capita among all MSAs in Florida. In the future, the luxury condominiums currently under development in downtown Sarasota may attract more millionaires to Sarasota. More impressive still, across the nation, which has nearly 3,100 counties and their equivalents, Sarasota ranked eighth in terms of millionaire concentration per resident. Forbes points out that several high-profile billionaires such as Kylie Jenner and Michael Jordan weren't even on the list.
