Beautiful beaches, warm weather and enviable recreational and cultural amenities make Sarasota one of the most desirable places to live in the United States. U. S. News & World Report has honored the city as one of the best places to live in the country, making it a popular destination for retirees, families, and young professionals alike.
The rankings are determined based on several factors developed by the media company, such as quality of life, labor market, desirability, net migration, and value. Despite its high housing costs, Sarasota remained in ninth place this year. Orlando took the most painful step, with Fort Myers freefall just behind. With record heat, crippling humidity and more powerful hurricanes expected in Florida for the next few years due to continued warming patterns, it is no wonder that Florida was one of the most popular places in the nation last year.
But there are signs that the market may not continue to sizzle as much with the increasingly common price drops in homes for sale. A series of controversial laws brought international attention to the state, including a government battle involving Disney World. Laurel Park is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Sarasota, very close to everything downtown has to offer. It has the kind of winding alleys and the unmistakable charm of Florida that offers comparisons to that jewel of South Florida, Key West.
This up-and-coming neighborhood offers walkability, green space, and relatively low housing values. Located just north of downtown Sarasota, this neighborhood is teeming with historic homes dating back to the 1920s and 1930s, many of which have been recently updated. Gillespie Park is another great area to live or invest in Sarasota. The neighborhood focuses on Gillespie Park, one of the largest parks in the county.

Lakewood is a huge planned community of seven “villages” with a total of more than 17,500 acres, more than half of which are designated as open spaces and recreation areas. Indian Beach Sapphire Shores is located next to the incredible Ringling estate and is undoubtedly one of the most elegant neighborhoods in the greater Sarasota area. This neighborhood features historic mansions as well as modest single-family homes, twin parks of Sapphire Shores and Indian Beach, and incredible views of Sarasota Bay. When you need to drive out of town, you can take one of the main roads connecting to nearby towns and cities. As you might expect for a vacation paradise with a growing population throughout the year, prices for almost everything are a little higher in Sarasota than in other Florida cities.
But with its comfortable climate, award-winning beaches, excellent services and virtually endless recreational activities, Sarasota is without a doubt one of the best places to move in Florida. From diving to stand-up paddleboarding, boating and fishing - there are over 12 miles of coastline with several barrier islands just off the coast perfect for walking along the beach or just enjoying the sun. Rents vary depending on location but with its eclectic neighborhood options prices can fluctuate. With its many attractions and amenities it is no wonder why Sarasota is considered one of the best places to live in Florida.
